About

Where to begin – I guess I should star with the basics. I’m Doug Millington born in Washington, DC in 1956 and raised in Silver Spring, MD and currently living in Columbia, MD.

Doug MillingtonMy interests from an early age revolved around sports and outdoors activities. I played every sport imaginable: baseball, football, basketball and tennis to name a few. In my youth I had no problem with weight or fitness. In fact, during my teens, when I was playing on my  high school football team, I tried various nutritional supplements to help me gain weight. None of them helped. During my junior year in high school the football team instituted a weight training program using a universal weight machine (state of the art at the time). I jumped in with both feet and over the next couple of years put on 20+ pounds of muscle.

When I graduated high school at 18 I was in the best shape of my life – I was a lean mean 160 pounds standing 5’11″. That was the last time I saw 160 pounds when I stepped on the bathroom scale. From college to the workplace my regular physical activity declined steadily. And as my activity declined my weight went up. Slowly at first, but I eventually reached my top weight of 230 pounds around 1995.

I had enough – I reached a decision that put me on a path to watch my diet and incorporate regular physical exercise. Over the first few months I lost about 30 pounds and began feeling much better. I would love to tell you I got down to 160 and have been able to maintain that weight but that would be a lie. I have made it down to 180, several times, and when I do I feel significantly better that at 200+.

Over the last 15 years I’ve tried various diets and exercise routines including cycling, running, walking, weight training and aerobics. I’ve started this Website with the two primary goals – (1) too keep myself immersed in a healthy lifestyle of proper diet, nutrition and regular physical exercise and (2) to help as many others as I can to reach their healthy lifestyle goals through proper diet, nutrition and regular physical exercise.

As of January 2, 2012 I’m a NESTA Certified Fitness Nutrition Coach. My core understanding of sound nutritional concepts will help me sift through all of the misinformation and help to dispel any myths about nutrition and diets.

In addition as of March 27, 2012 I’ve become a NESTA Lifestyle & Weight Management Specialist. The educational program and subsequent testing for the Lifestyle & Weight Management Specialist is based upon evidenced based research and actual studies that are guaranteed to bring results as long as the individual learns and implements the lifestyle changes suggested.

The next step in my continued education is my pursuit of the NESTA’s Kid’s Nutrition Specialist designation. I’m determined to learn as much as I can so I can provide you with the best information available to help you achieve your healthy lifestyle goals.

Life is a journey with endless possibilities and the one thing I know for certain is that whatever path you may take it will be significantly more enjoyable if you are healthy and fit.
