A teenager’s diet is important for the development of his mind and body. Teens are generally aware of the importance of eating right to feel and look good. The problem is that teenagers get distracted by video games, fattening snacks, and sugary soda, and those can get in the way. Instead of trying to force your teenagers to eat boring and bland foods that they will hate, you have to be creative in order to make a healthy diet fun for teenagers so they are excited about eating right.
Keep small snacks that are healthy around. After school, your teenagers are probably very hungry. Most likely they had a small breakfast, if any, and a fast lunch, so they will want something to keep them from starving before dinner. They won’t want to wait while you make them something.
If you have unhealthy snacks like chips or pizza around, that is what they will eat so keep healthy snacks ready for them to eat as soon as they get home from school. These can include carrots, humus, pita, or popcorn, which are all snacks that your teenagers and their friends will enjoy and that will fill them up. The easier the snacks are to make, the more likely the teens will be to eat them.
Keep breakfast simple. The key to a healthy diet for the day is to eat a good breakfast. Any teenager who does not have a full stomach is going to be unfocused and lack concentration. He will probably be tempted by the unhealthy snacks in the cafeteria or from vending machines.
It is a good idea to have fast and easy breakfast foods around like organic granola bars without chocolate coverings, yogurt with granola, or healthy cereals that your teenagers can eat. Breakfast is so important because it breaks the fast you have been on overnight.
Send a healthy lunch with your teens. Teens are not going to pack their lunch because it is easier to pick up some tasty but unhealthy foods at the school cafeteria or from a fast food restaurant. That means spending more money and eating fattening foods. You can make a healthy diet fun for teenagers by giving them a delicious but healthy lunch to take with them to school. This could include a salad with grilled chicken, chickpeas, and a healthy but tasty dressing and some extra side dishes like yogurt, rice cakes, or any other low sugar snack.
Tell your children about the dangers of fast food. Your teenagers need to know that all the processed foods contain lots of sugar, salt, and saturated fats. Talk to your children about what the healthy foods they could choose from different restaurants. They need to know that a sub from Subway, a chicken salad from Wendy’s, or a chicken wrap with grilled chicken from McDonald’s are good choices.
