So what diet is the best diet? According to the report from US News & World Report the DASH diet or DASH Eating Plan is the best diet. Now there are a lot of things good to say about the DASH Eating Plan. The first is that DASH comes from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. And that means it’s free. Now just because it’s free does not make it the best diet but it is a nice side benefit.

DASH is an acronym standing for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The DASH eating plan follows heart healthy guidelines to limit saturated fat and cholesterol. It focuses on increasing intake of foods rich in nutrients that are expected to lower blood pressure, mainly minerals (like potassium, calcium and magnesium), protein, and fiber. It includes nutrient-rich foods so that it meets other nutrient requirements as recommended by the Institute of Medicine.
