These days, you’ve got plenty of exercise machines to choose from. If you’re just starting out, you may become overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices. Each time you turn on the TV, a new exercise machine or gadget is being promoted. These infomercials all claim to be the answer to your weight problems.
The truth is that most of these exercise gadgets are ineffective. They’re nothing but fads, and they get replaced by gadgets that are said to be the “new and improved” versions. Still, many people are overweight; many still fail to see the results they want. They end up spending all their hard-earned money on ineffective exercise gadgets.
Perhaps you want to burn fat and lose weight while you’re watching your favorite show on TV. This is possible, you know; you just need to have the right exercise equipment. Two home fitness machines fit the bill: the treadmill and the elliptical trainer. Which of the two fitness machines should you go for?
In terms of body movement, you need to walk, jog, or run on a treadmill to prompt your body to burn fat and help you lose weight. With an elliptical trainer, you simply push on the footpads and let momentum work out your body. You can burn fat with less effort on an elliptical trainer. Your feet remain on the footpads for the duration, you’ll get the feeling that you’re walking or running on air. An elliptical trainer provides a low-impact workout so you’re much less likely to get injured. Treadmills put pressure on your knees, ankles, and hips so you’re more likely to experience pain or strains.
In terms of getting a full body workout, you’ll need to put all your concentration when you’re on the treadmill. You need to make sure you’re keeping up with the changing speeds and incline. Compared to the treadmill, an elliptical trainer is much better at giving you a full body workout with less effort or concentration on your part. All you need to do is get the machine started and hold on to the handlebars. An elliptical trainer will work out your upper body and lower body without putting pressure on your weight-bearing joints or exposing you to injury. You’ll burn fat and tone up practically every part of your body.
With an elliptical trainer, you don’t need to specifically target an area and move the muscles in that area in order to burn fat. For instance, if you want to burn fat from your arms and belly, an elliptical trainer can help you do that by allowing you to give all the major muscle groups in your body a good workout. This is much more effective in burning fat than just doing painful crunches. Besides, there is no such thing as targeted weight loss. You will lose weight in the areas of your body that is easiest for it to lose weight. If you naturally gain weight the most on your thighs, this is the last place your body will lose weight. You may start losing weight on your arms and calves before you see your thighs lose weight or your belly get smaller.
For many people, the elliptical trainer trumps the treadmill. Unlike the treadmill, the elliptical machine not just provides low-impact, full body workouts, it also helps the body burn more fat in less time. If you tend to have a busy schedule, an elliptical trainer is the better choice for you since working out for just 30 minutes a day can help you burn more calories than you would burn running on a treadmill for an hour.
