According to The Centers For Disease Control (CDC) obesity is a significant public health problem with serious implications for the health and well-being of the American public. If you have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or greater you are obese. Obesity is associated with increased health care costs, increased risk of premature death and reduced quality of life. Heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer are the most common causes of premature death related to obesity.

In 2000 the Healthy People 2010 initiative set as one of the objectives to reduce the percentage of adults who are obese to 15%. Check out the video below to see if the American public reached that objective.
