With everyone trying to lose weight these days, many companies are profiting from the desire people have to find the right product to help them lose weight. One of the most unique marketing strategies that companies are using now is to produce food in packages of only 100 calories per serving. When you think you are eating "only 100 calories", you feel like you can indulge in a sweet treat without ruining your diet. Think about it and do the math, though. What math is that?
First, we should consider the basic facts of losing and gaining weight. The amount of energy in different foods is measured in a "calorie". There are government regulations that specify what the nutritional labels on the packaging including the calories or energy values of the food. That way you can figure out what the calorie count is in each serving of the different foods you consume.
As far as calories go, researchers have discovered that a pound of weight equals 3500 calories. What that means is in order for you to gain a pound, you would have to consume 3500 calories, and to lose a pound you have to reduce your calorie intake by 3500 calories.
Now that you know the basics of calories, let's do the math with the "only 100 calories" foods. If you think about all of those "only 100 calorie" snacks companies are producing and think about eating one a day for 365 days, you will have consumed about 36,500 calories in a year. Now think about the pound, which equals 3500 calories, and divide 36,500 by 3,500 calories and you will find that you have added more than 10 pounds in a year. So imagine you remove these "only 100 calorie" snacks for a year then you would be able to stop the weight gain of more than 10 pounds in a year. Do you really want to spend your money on those snacks now?
According to most calorie charts, a person who weighs around 155 pounds burns about 250 calories by going for a walk at 3.0 mph for an hour. So in order to get rid of those calories that are in an "only 100 calories" snack, then a person at this weight would have to walk for 30 minutes. The point of this article is not that "only 100 calorie" snacks are all bad. The point is that you have to really consider what the companies that produce these snacks are trying to sell you in order to make money for themselves.

I'm sooo lucky that I'm young and I have a body that can burn these calories very fast. I could eat a steak and two Mars bars and drink 2 liters of coca cola a day or so I'm not gaining weight at all. But I also guess that everyones body are different. But this companys like you to think that all of you have the same body that work in the same way so you should like and eat the same thing.
