Losing weight is often so hard because we lack motivation. Many of us enjoy doing nothing but to sit around and watch TV. You probably have even seen people avoid walking to the mailbox by getting into their car or golf cart and then driving down to get their mail. Why would they not just walk down the driveway to the mailbox? It’s because most of us are not motivated. The short walk to the mailbox is not going to help you lose weight but every little thing you do to lose weight and get in shape helps and keeps you motivated.
What is the key to get motivated? You can start by hanging a picture of your goal where you will see it every day. Keep reminding yourself to work on getting in shape and eating right daily. You don’t have to be overweight if that is not what you want.
Things like motivational CDs and DVDs can help you lose weight and get in shape. You can also get motivated by going to the gym where you can participate in fun workout classes. That will give you the opportunity to meet others who are working on the same goals as you. Having someone to help you be accountable can help you get motivated but your motivation really needs to come from inside you. You have to want to lose weight and get in shape for you.
You can also get motivated by really wanting to be healthy. That means you have a lot of hard work in front of you that you are not used to doing. Is it worth it to work hard to avoid serious health problems, though? Would you rather die of a heart attack than be inconvenienced by working out?
About three-fourths of Americans apparently would rather become seriously ill. That is how many people in this country are obese. Modern medicine is making it possible for obese people to live longer and that means people don’t worry about their weight like they should.
There are no benefits to being out of shape and overweight. When people are overweight, they can’t even walk down the halls at work or go up a flight of stairs without breathing heavily. Carrying all that extra weight is very uncomfortable and hard on your body. This should be enough motivation for you to get yourself in shape and lose weight.
